Artist Statement

In life, when we are faced with challenges that are overwhelming and difficult to understand, it can be hard to make sense of our emotions. The emotional response can result in the lack of capacity to... hear from others or reflect our own feelings. The lack of capacity is like a hotel that has no room to rent.

A hotel is a place where people come and go, they stay for the time they need and leave when ready. This is just like the place where we hold our feelings. At times, they flow through for a visit, other times the feelings need to be taken care of, housed and nurtured.

Like a notice on the doors of many establishments, the hotel's management team pens a note card explaining their temporary closure to support their current feelings aka guests. This notice is a nod to the type of common place notices we have seen during COVID-19.
