Artist Statement

These works were inspired by my favourite piece of literature, Their Eyes Were Watching God by Zora Neale Hurston. I wanted to embody the spirit of the book through time from a contemporary lense with influences from the 1920s.

Angela Walcott is a multidisciplinary artist who belongs to the BIPOC community. She aims to... develop an evocative dialogue between the delicate nature of environment as it pertains to history within a cultural framework.

At the helm of her artistic practice is the desire to provide methods for problem-solving with the Arts as a main tool for expression. With an innate desire to uncover truths via investigative research, she utilizes methodologies embedded in historical framework to frame the narrative.

She attempts to emphasize the importance of adaptability as a means of counteracting the demands and tensions interlaced within a complicated and ever-changing society where issues of race, politics and racial equality coincide.
