Artist Statement

My developing art practice explores connections between memory, place, and belonging. I reflect on family relationships, care and love, grief and bereavement, and allow those vulnerabilities to inform my... creative practices. My work often reflects craft practices passed down from my mother and grandmother, and my maternal ancestors.

Since becoming a mother myself, I have gained a deeper perspective of caring, patience, and love. I seek to push the boundaries of my art practice by examining attitudes toward artist mothers, queer parenting, the inclusion or exclusion of children in art spaces, issues surrounding childcare, raising children while working.

Through periods of working and studying at home, my children became an integral part of my creative work, both as inspiration and collaborator. 2-year-old Frederick often busies himself with various mark-making tools, adding his own perspective to my sketches and paintings and supplying us both with imaginary tea and biscuits.
