Artist Statement
"Thinking about finding quiet from the hurly-burly and something to put in a garden, I decided to make this caterpillar! Being a puppeteer I love the way caterpillars move, inching along, and I've always thought... of them as very peaceful, quiet creatures. I named this caterpillar Pumpernickel (because of the bread I've been baking).
I wanted folks to have an activity while in quarantine, so I encourage you to follow the video and make your own caterpillar puppet. At the end of the video I show you how to make the caterpillar move, so you can inch him around your garden!
I wouldn't recommend leaving your puppet outside in bad weather or overnight, but this little guy could be a great character to add to your garden or play with.
